| Ninety-seven rising high school seniors from across the country concluded a week of leadership development, college readiness, and career exploration as the 2026 TMCF SOAR (Seeking, Observing, and Achieving Results) HBCU Scholars Program came to a close Friday, July 10, at Grambling State University.Hosted in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), the weeklong residential experience introduced scholars to college life while helping them strengthen leadership skills, explore academic and career opportunities, and build meaningful relationships with peers, mentors, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals.Throughout the week, scholars participated in leadership and strengths development workshops, college readiness sessions, financial literacy programming, wellness experiences, team-building activities, and student life engagement. They also engaged with Grambling State faculty, staff, alumni, and current students while experiencing the University’s traditions and campus culture firsthand.One of the week’s signature experiences was a visit to JPMorganChase in Monroe, where scholars met with banking and technology professionals, explored career pathways, and gained firsthand insight into careers in the corporate sector. Scholars also visited Louisiana Delta Community College, broadening their understanding of educational opportunities and workforce preparation.The program also introduced participants to the college admissions process and the academic opportunities available at Grambling State. As a result of their participation, more than 60 scholars received conditional admission to Grambling State University, creating a direct pathway for many to continue their educational journey as future Tigers. |
