North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is making sure that the future of AI is as inclusive as it is innovative.

Supported by a $1 million dollar Google.org grant, NCCU’s new Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Equity Research (IAIER) will offer up to 200 students unprecedented exploration of AI through classes, hands-on projects, and invaluable mentorship. This is the first program of its kind at any historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the nation.

Set to launch in 2025, IAIER reflects a forward-thinking approach to leadership in one of today’s most dynamic fields, ensuring that underrepresented voices play a central role in shaping AI’s development. The initiative builds on NCCU’s strong ties to North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park — a premier center for technology and innovation. Students will have access to state-of-the-art tools, industry connections, and professional opportunities that will prepare them to excel in AI-driven industries. The institute will also foster collaboration with other HBCUs, industry leaders, and research partners across the country. (READ MORE)
