For graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), autumn means the annual return to a place where adulthood commenced and a deep pride was instilled.

By the numbers, HBCUs make up only three percent of the country’s colleges and universities, enrolling 10% of all Black college students and producing almost 20% of all Black college graduates, per the United Negro College Fund.

Every year, HBCU alumni such as Vice President Kamala Harris, who attended Howard University, or Megan Thee Stallion, who graduated from Texas Southern University, come back with a plan. Whether they return to the yard to rekindle romance, raise funds for current students, address campus issues, refresh their strolling skills with their Divine 9 fraternity and sorority members, or simply party like undergraduates again, homecoming is a week-long labor of love.

In all, attending an HBCU homecoming can not only be great for the institution, but also a life-changing experience of fellowship and a shining example of enduring Black legacies. Read more for a schedule of 2024 HBCU homecomings and classic football games below.
