What is MUSTARD SEED FAITH? First, we must define FAITH. FAITH is a gift from God. FAITH is the substance hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). FAITH is so critical to the Christian that the Bible says without it, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
But Faith is much broader than just the word FAITH. There are levels to Faith. Strong Faith, Weak Faith, Wavering Faith, Faith Without Works, Active Faith, Little Faith, and Blind Faith just to name a few. Then there’s Mustard Seed Faith. Since Faith is an action word (a verb), that would make Mustard Seed an adverb.
Let’s talk about that adverb for a moment. Mustard Seeds are said to be the smallest of all seeds and they can be found in the Middle East. Each seed is about one to two millimeters in size, but the brush can grow to 20 or 30 feet tall and wide! Mustard Seed Faith is referenced twice in the Bible. In Matthew 17:14-20, when the disciples were unable to remove the demon from the little boy after Jesus had given them the authority to do so. Jesus tells them they can’t do it because of their little faith and if they had faith the size of a mustard seed, they could say to the mountain “move” and it would move.
In Luke 17:6, Jesus tells His disciples if they had faith the size of a mustard seed, they could say to the mulberry tree get up and plant yourself by the sea, and it would. Now, we know these are parables, but God strategically used these parables and the adverb, MUSTARD SEED, to help people understand that it doesn’t take a lot of faith to make things happen and to have a large impact on your life and the lives of others, and that your Mustard Seed Faith can bring about your greatest accomplishments and blessings!
Now, Mustard Seed Faith is not where you want your faith level to stay all of your life. You want to grow your faith and you can only do that by growing your relationship with God and His Word. So I challenge you to grow your relationship with God, grow in your knowledge of His Word, and grow your faith… one mustard seed at a time.
