WORSHIP is an expression of praise to God with all of our heart, mind, body and soul. Some people think that worship is just music or performing Gospel/Christian songs in front of others or weekend church services at a building or online. Yes, that is all apart of worship, but worship is sooo much more than that.
Worship stems from the inside out and is in two parts: spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). First of all, we must be born again and have the Holy Spirit living inside of us in order to be able to worship. We can’t worship God without having that connection. You have to know God and His word in order to be able to worship Him. 1 Corinthians 2-11 says no one knows the things of God except the spirit of God. So having the Holy Spirit inside you is the foundation for worshipping God. Second, worship requires a mind centered on God and renewed by Truth. In Romans 12:1-2, Paul commands believers to not conform to the ways of the world, but to be transformed by renewing their minds to the ways and will of God. Third, we can only worship God in spirit by having a pure, repented and open heart. In 2 Samuel 11 and 12, when David was feeling guilty about killing Bathsheba’s husband and taking her for his wife, he found it impossible to worship God. The guilt over what he had done was killing him and he just couldn’t face God. But when he confessed and repented for those sins, his ability to worship God returned.
You will not be able to worship God if your heart is filled with unconfessed sins. I know that for a fact. Been there, done that. Got the receipts. Like Jesus said in John 8:32, “The truth will set you free.” WORSHIP is not just something you do. It’s not a ritual. It’s a lifestyle. It is you surrendering your total heart, mind, body and soul to God.
