ANGELS are spirits created by God to serve His purposes. They are intelligent, emotional and spiritual beings with no bodies. They are no where near as powerful as God. They do not have limitless knowledge and cannot be everywhere at the same time, but they are smarter than humans and much more powerful than us. Angels are in a supernatural realm. The good angels worship God and are messengers to His people. The word “angel” itself means “messenger.” Angels also wage spiritual battles against evil forces that walk amongst us everyday. They block things you don’t even see coming. They make sure God’s plans for the world and for us are are fulfilled. They minister to us and they are there when we transition so that we don’t die alone.

Angels are used in whatever way God needs them. They are at His disposal to carry out His commands, which could be anything from answering someone’s prayers, to serving and protecting believers. They also carry out God’s orders for destruction. When Pharaoh refused to let Moses take God’s people out of Egypt, God sent an angel to kill every firstborn son (Exodus 12:12, 23). Angels were involved in the death of King Herod (Acts 12:23) and the book of Revelation foretells of many angelic acts that will play a role in the end of the world.

So the work of an angel is not all peaches and cream. Some angels choose not to be on the Lord’s side at all. Those are the bad angels, also known as fallen angels. The first one to fall was dubbed Satan. He’s also known as the devil or Lucifer and I am sure a few other choice words. He too has followers. He was able to convince other angels that he was more powerful than God and would one day take over Heaven. Those fallen angels are called demons and their goal, along with their fearless leader, is to wreak havoc on God’s people and try to win them over. But Satan and his crew are already defeated. How do we know this? Because Jesus’s death and resurrection overcame Satan’s power over sin, death and Hell.

In life, there will always be good angels and bad angels. God is a God of “FREE WILL,” so its up to you which one you allow to help you on your life’s journey.
