“I Surrender All” is a 19th-century Christian hymn written by Judson W. Van DeVenter in 1896, symbolizing a personal, total dedication of one’s life, ambition, and will to God. Surrendering all to God means letting Him have total control of a situation and getting out of His way. Period.
Now for some, that is easier said than done. One reason is due to the spirit of DOUBT. We may tend to doubt ourselves and God and His ability to get the job done. So what do you do when you have doubt? Pray and trust God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your crooked path straight.”
Surrendering all to God also requires us to have a certain level of humility. Sometimes we thing we can solve any and everything because of our accomplishments, problems we have solved in the past and because of our financial status. But sometimes, while riding on our high horses, we forget that we would not have been able to accomplish anything if not for God giving us wisdom and because of His grace and mercy. Here are some steps to help you to be able to Surrender All to God.
Identify what you can and can’t control, address what you can control and surrender to God what you can’t; meditate on His promises to us like, Jerimiah 29:11 which reads, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and hope.” Most importantly, you have to operate off of FAITH not FEAR, faith in God that He will to do what He said He would do. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” You are not going to win every battle and every fight. Some look at “surrendering” as a defeat. But when you surrender all to God, it’s viewed as a “sweet victory” that replaces the stress of self-reliance with peace and serenity. If you haven’t already, hopefully, there will come a time in your life, in which you will say, “God…I SURRENDER ALL.”
