Southern entered Saturday’s Bayou Classic battle with Grambling desperate for a season-ending victory during one of its worst seasons in school history.The Jaguars’ desperation was rewarded as they took down Grambling 28-27 in the 52nd annual Bayou Classic on Saturday at the Caesars Superdome. They clawed back from 14 points down in the second quarter and took a lead for the first time with 7:16 left in the game.The game marks the first time since 2002 that Southern (2-10, 1-7 SWAC) beat Grambling with an inferior record in the Bayou Classic, when it won 48-24 under coach Pete Richardson.“We tried to overcome all our adversities during the course of this year, and we put together a good game plan to come in and focus on what we had to do on the course of the Bayou Classic,” said Southern interim coach Fred McNair, whose team snapped a nine-game losing streak. “My biggest thing to these young men, ‘Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up. Give up on this with something that you love, you give up on life.’
