When many people think about “dancing”, what comes to mind is a secular activity that people do to have fun and express themselves at nightclubs and parties.  But dancing is also done to celebrate and worship God.  One of the most famous people in the bible who danced for the Lord was David.  2 Samuel 6:14 reads, “…David danced before the Lord with all of his might.”  In the bible, dancing is spoken of as a symbol of rejoicing and a means of coming closer to God and celebrating the relationship you already have with Him.  It’s a way to express how you feel about God when words aren’t enough.  The bible encourages us to dance.  Psalm 149:2-3 reads, 2. “Let Israel rejoice in their Maker!  Let the people in Zion rejoice in their King. 3.  Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with timbrel and harp.”

There is no rhyme or reason for how you get your spiritual dance on.  It’s not anything you have to learn like a line dance.  Spiritual dance is a feeling and your feet and arms will be lead by that feeling.  Now this may mean that you may look uncoordinated, awkward, cause people to stare and that’s a good thing, because they may ask you what you are doing and that gives you the opportunity to tell them what you are doing, why and for whom.  It opens up the door for you to share the word of God with them.  So, two left feet sometimes can be a good thing.  Spiritual dance can take you to another level, time, place and atmosphere to experience God like never before.  Embrace that dancing spirit when it hits you, wherever you are, for Spiritual Dance is a ministry that needs to be seen and heard.  It’s not just for you, but for those who see you and see the God in you…through DANCE!
