What is a PROMISE? A promise is assurance that a particular thing will happen. Well, God’s promises in the Bible are just that. If He said He is going to do something, it IS going to happen. You can take that to the bank. God is perfect, He never lies and His words never change or come back void. So, ALL the promises in the Bible WILL be kept and there are a lot of them. Depending on the research, you may find that it is said there are more than 3,000, some say more than 7,000, some say more than 8,000 promises in the Bible, so the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
God’s promises are found throughout the Bible. You just can’t go to one particular section to see them all. You would have to read the Bible from cover to cover to see all of them and that is actually what God wants us to do. Read the Bible from cover to cover, retain His promises and remind Him of them. Now, God doesn’t need for us to remind Him of His promises. He hasn’t and will never forget them. But He wants us to repeat them back to Him so that He will know that we know His promises. Humor Him. I amuse him everyday. “Lord you said…Lord you promised.” That is music to His ears. It lets Him know that you are reading, remembering and digesting His promises.
Sometimes He waits to fulfill a promise with you, until you remind Him of what that promise is and once you do, that’s His cue to go into action in your behalf. Some of my favorite promises are: God promises to strengthen us, God promises to give us rest, God promises to give us peace, God promises to supply all of our needs, God promises to answer our prayers, God promises to work everything out for our good, God promises to be with us always, God promises to protect us, God promises to forgive us for our sins and God promises to give us joy. Now, promises do not come without stipulations. We still have to do our part. We still have to love God and one another, abide by His word, be a good steward, treat each other with respect and dignity, and be humble and be grateful, just to name a few. But it’s one thing to know GOD’S PROMISES. It’s another to live your life like you BELIEVE THEM.
