By definition, MIRACLES are extraordinary and astonishing happenings that are attributed to the presence and action of a divine power. Ok, in laymen’s terms, MIRACLES are unexplainable and supernatural things that happen in your life and the lives of others and you know it had to be GOD. God performs miracles for two reasons: to strengthen our faith and to do good deeds. The Bible contains well over 100 documented miracles across the Old and New Testaments.

Old Testament Miracles focused on delivering God’s people, establishing the covenant, and demonstrating absolute power over creation. Examples are:

-The Creation (Genesis 1): The universe and all life are spoken into existence.
-The Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14): God parts the waters so the Israelites can escape the Egyptian army.
-The Sun Stood Still (Joshua 10): God lengthens the day so the Israelites can win a decisive military victory.
-Daniel in the Lion’s Den (Daniel 6): God supernaturally shuts the mouths of the lions to protect Daniel.

In the New Testament, Jesus performs numerous miracles to validate his divinity, show compassion for the suffering, and illustrate the coming of God’s kingdom. Examples are:

-Turning Water into Wine (John 2): Jesus performs his first public miracle at a wedding in Cana.
-Feeding the 5,000 (Matthew 14): Jesus multiplies a few loaves of bread and fish to feed a massive crowd.
-Calming the Storm (Mark 4): Jesus commands a violent windstorm to be still, revealing his authority over nature.
-Healing the Sick and Blind (e.g., Mark 1, John 9): Jesus restores physical faculties to the blind, deaf, and paralyzed.
-Raising Lazarus from the Dead (John 11): Jesus brings a dead man back to life, revealing his power over death.

The most significant miracle for Christians is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Luke 24), which symbolizes the ultimate triumph over sin and the promise of eternal life.

But we don’t have to look to the Bible for miracles. There are miracles that God performs everyday in your life. If He woke you up to see another day, that was your first miracle of the day. As old folks used to say, a roof over your head, food on your table, clothes on your back, those are miracles that some people are praying for right now.

Speaking of praying, one of the best ways to have a miracle happen in your life is to pray. Praying is an action word, and when you pray to God, that sets the miracle you are praying for into motion. You know He is always waiting to hear from us. You can block a miracle by not asking God to perform it. He is just waiting on us to ask Him for help. Now, when He performs that miracle for you, tell somebody. That miracle was not only meant to help you and build your faith, it’s to help build somebody else’s faith too. When He performs that next miracle for you, big or small, share the GOOD NEWS. That’s not boasting. That’s telling your testimony to let someone know that through their faith, they too can receive the MIRACLES OF GOD!
