Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Nebraska allows any voter to request a ballot by mail. You can also vote in person. Nebraska offers early voting.

Vote early

Nebraska voters can also vote before Election Day. The early voting period runs from Monday, October 5, 2020 to Monday, November 2, 2020, but dates and hours may vary based on where you live.

Exception: The deadline to return a voter registration form with an early voting ballot in person is Election Day.

What to bring

  • If you’ve voted in Nebraska before, you do not have to show ID to vote.
  • If you’re a first-time voter who registered to vote by mail, and didn’t include a copy of your ID when you registered, you’ll need to show ID to vote. Acceptable forms include: any current photo ID; or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address.
  • Voters without ID: If you are unable to provide ID, you will be able to vote a provisional ballot.

Exception: The deadline to return a voter registration form with an early voting ballot in person is Election Day.

Who can vote

You have to register to vote before Election Day in Nebraska. You can find the deadline to register to vote in the “Dates and deadlines” section.

To register in Nebraska you must:

  • be a citizen of the United States
  • be a resident of Nebraska and of the county where you are registering; if you move to another county, you must re-register
  • be at least 18 years of age or will be 18 years of age on or before the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November
  • not have been convicted of a felony, either in Nebraska or another state or in federal court; you cannot register to vote until two years after the completion of your sentence including any probation or parole term
  • not have been officially found to be mentally incompetent

Vote by mail

  1. Request your mail-in ballot with a mail ballot application.
  2. Fill out the application completely.
  3. Submit the request to your local election office. You should request your ballot as far in advance of the election as possible. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is (received by) Friday, October 23, 2020.
  4. When your ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete it and return it.
